ELAC Men Win 4x400, Liu Doubles at SOKA Indoor Outdoor

The men's track & field team from East Los Angeles College turned in a strong showing Saturday at the Soka Indoor Outdoor, highlighted by a relay victory and a dominant sprint double from sophomore William Liu.

Liu Claims 200m Title, Takes Second in 60m

Sophomore William Liu led the way for ELAC with a win in the men's 200 meters, clocking 21.39 (+1.6) to take the event title in convincing fashion.

Earlier in the day, Liu placed third overall in the 60 meters in 6.94, while teammate Cristian Dineros finished second in 6.88 (6.879 FAT) — just four thousandths of a second behind the winner. Freshman Sean Lawson also placed in the top section at 7.25.

The Huskies placed multiple athletes in the 200m finals section as well, with Dineros (21.93), Justin Guerriero (22.74), Lawson (23.18) and Daniel Gamboa (23.27) all contributing to a deep sprint group.

ELAC Wins 4x400 Relay

The Huskies closed the meet in style, winning the men's 4x400 relay in 3:25.00, edging Long Beach (3:27.52) and Vanguard (3:28.27).

ELAC's 'B' relay squad added depth with a 3:35.32 performance to place sixth overall.

Distance Crew Sets the Tone

In the men's 3000 meters, ELAC packed the top four spots behind the winner:

  • Daniel Araya — 1st, 9:45.84

  • Kevin Hernandez — 3rd, 9:52.09

  • Rey De Gante — 4th, 9:53.74

The trio returned in the mile, where Araya (5:03.37), De Gante (5:07.84) and Diego Diaz (5:02.94) continued to build early-season strength.

In the 1000 meters, Caden Minohara led the Huskies with a 2:50.30, while Ethan Yung (2:52.86) and Hernandez (2:55.55) added solid marks.

Field & Sprints Add Points

Daniel Gamboa paced ELAC in the long jump, placing fourth at 6.53m (21-5.25), with Cristhian Guerrero (6.44m) and Maurion Jones (6.23m) adding scoring depth.

In the 400 meters, Lander Flores posted a 52.10, while Armando Renteria followed at 53.83.

In the shot put, Aaron Ponce led ELAC with a throw of 10.93m (35-10.50).
